This is a great opportunity to learn more about St. Michael!
An inspiring documentary about the role of Saint Michael in Scripture and in our lives. Various religious experts from different parts of the world, discuss Saint Michael from a religious, historical, and cultural angle and present the most sacred Churches and sanctuaries associated with Saint Michael. Audiences will experience powerful testimonies of faith, riveting Church history, and beautiful architecture and art in Christian culture that will bring everyone closer to the extraordinary figure of Archangel Michael, a friend, and warrior for today.
The film discusses the Sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel on Mount Gargano, Italy. Several apparitions are associated with the Archangel Michael at the grotto located there, and it is the only shrine in the world not consecrated by human hands, but by those of an angel — in this case, St. Michael the Archangel. It is the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to St. Michael and has attracted pilgrims since the Middle Ages. Padre Pio also visited Mount Gargano and developed a special devotion to St. Michael the Archangel. Father Wladyslaw Suchy, Congregation of Saint Michael the Archangel (CSMA), rector of the sanctuary, explains the apparitions and takes us inside this fascinating grotto.
In another part of the documentary, we travel to Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini Catholic Church in Rome, Italy, to see “Sancte Michael Archangele” — one of the most famous paintings of St. Michael the Archangel. A cardinal in Rome commissioned Italian painter Guido Reni to create the religious masterpiece, which measures nearly 10 feet tall by 7 feet wide. The dramatic painting shows St. Michael with a sword pointed downward at Satan, who is chained and trapped under the archangel’s foot. It was placed on an altar in the church in 1635 and has remained there ever since. The artist was inspired by a passage from Revelation in which St. Michael does battle with the devil. Reni vividly depicts the archangel descending with spread wings from heaven to subdue Satan, the prince of evil, and throw him into the great abyss.
