The gifting of Challenge Coins, also known as Commander's Coins, are a military tradition in which commanders give coins to service members often with a squadron insignia or other meaningful symbolic emblem to recognize their service-related achievements, boost morale, & give a sense of belonging. They show concrete appreciation on the spot for a job well done. They are a way of entering into remembrance of a hard mission or personal milestone.

Christian challenge coins can function in a similar way to give recognition, they can be purchased by an individual to remind them of a particular Bible verse or to have a striking image that draws them into prayer that can be carried in their pocket or wallet. Such items are often referred to as an 'Every Day Carry' or EDC, which is a catch-all term describing any essential item that one chooses to always carry on their person.
